Madonna's daughter, Lourdes Leon, says she needed to escape from the 'control freak' Queen of Pop

Lourdes gets candid in a recent interview.

Lourdes Leon, Madonna's daughter, opened up about her relationship with her control freak mother in a recent conversation with Interview. Leon, who is Madonna's firstborn, revealed that at times, she felt overwhelmed by her mother's constant need for control. 

"My mom is such a control freak, and she has controlled me my whole life," Leon said. "I needed to be completely independent from her as soon as I graduated high school", Lourdes revealed. 

Leon sought out financial independence at a young age, reportedly paying her own college tuition and later renting an apartment in Brooklyn. Despite feeling the need to be independent, she has developed more appreciation for her mother's hard work and dedication. "She's probably the hardest worker I've ever seen," she added.

Madonna has also reflected on being a mom and the challenges of parenting as her children grow older. "I had this funny notion that when your children get older, they learn to take care of themselves and it gets easier," Madonna reportedly told People back in 2017. "But actually the older they get, the more challenging it gets, because now they're becoming adults, and they really need guidance."

Madonna has been clear about her parenting philosophy, stating: "I'm in charge! I'm the boss!" She also revealed that she takes on the role of the "bad-cop" and is the one who says no. "I accept that role. I'm not the popular parent."

Madonna has six children in total, including Leon. Her other children are Rocco, David, Mercy, and twins Estere and Stella. Despite her reputation as a control freak, Madonna has always been empowering to other women and ahead of her time, something that Leon admires about her mother. "I didn't fully comprehend that until I realized the importance of empowerment and what it means to be a woman," Leon said. 

Madonna is a hardworking and dedicated mother who has always strived to empower her children. While she may have a reputation as a control freak, her children seem to appreciate the guidance and support she provides. As Madonna herself said, "I'm the boss!" but it seems her children wouldn't have it any other way.
